November news and events

Ready to get back on the streets? Join us for a day of action in Birmingham.

👣 WHAT?
SLEEPWALKING INTO A NIGHTMARE: MIDLANDS ACTION
Family friendly action, all welcome, invite your allied groups along.

📣 WHEN AND WHERE?
Saturday 14th November, outside St Martin’s Church, Edgbaston Street Birmingham B5 5BB (right outside the Bullring).

Gather from 11am for 12 noon start. Procession/performance to finish 3pm.

⚠️WHY?
Let’s raise awareness of the Government’s failure to fully publish and respond to the National Security Assessment. This follows directly on from the Love and Rage action in London last month.

❓️HOW?
Lets come together and do what we do best!
🥁 If you’re a drummer, come drum!
📣 If you do outreach, yes please!
🪨 A trusty steward? Come forward!

⭐️ WHAT TO WEAR
There will be four ‘blocks’ within the procession: Sleepwalkers, Flood, Heat & Wildfire and Food Insecurity. Worcestershire, Marches and Shrewsbury are providing the flood block. To take part, all you need to do is wear blue to represent water: additional props may be offered!

If dressing up is not your thing, there will still be opportunities to take part – in particular we need people to hand out leaflets and do outreach.

Come along and make connections with other Midlands ‘rebels’ – we’re a really friendly group of concerned citizens, using creative actions to get serious messages across to the public, press and politicians. There are plans for an after-event meet-up in a pub or cafe – venue to be confirmed.

recent events and news

Malvern Green Space Fashion Show

The Malvern Green Space Sustainable Fashion Show took place on Saturday 10 Oct 2026. Those who have attended a Green Space fashion show before will know that it is a joyous celebration of eco-fashion, proving that style does not have to come with a hefty price tag or planet-harming habits: and this year was no exception. The theme this year was ‘Musicology’ and we were treated to a spectacle of music and outfits fitting the theme from 1920s to the Spice Girls, Peaky Blinders to Hard Rock, and everything in between.

XR Malvern staged a Military Intervention half-way through, drawing attention to the destructive nature of fast fashion with an expertly-scripted and comically-delivered sketch. This featured a sergeant major and her troop, furthering the aims of the fast fashion industry before they reject conformity and find their groove inspired by music from the Beatles to Dolly Parton. You had to be there (although there is a video if you missed it).

Vigil 6th anniversary

The sun shone on our vigil anniversary on Saturday 17th Oct when we marked 6 years of continuous vigils.

In October 2020 a group of rebels met on a Saturday in the centre of Great Malvern to start a Vigil for the Earth. Nearly 6 years later that vigil is still ongoing and not one Saturday has been missed.

The purpose of the vigil is to show our love and compassion for the earth, to take action in a calm and peaceful way, to show future generations that we stand against destructive business-as-usual and to do outreach.

We are angry and distressed that 6 years on, our vigil is more necessary than ever before as meaningful climate action often seems far away.  But, we enjoyed the sunshine, our togetherness and a delicious cake made by Abby and honoured our steadfast commitment to taking action for climate and nature.

This is part of the wording from our vigil leaflet and it remains as relevant now as it did 6 years ago:
The Earth Vigil is made up of ordinary people from all walks of life who sit holding the Earth in mind with compassion and loving kindness. And we remind those who pass by of the climate and ecological crisis.  We can all do our part in the smallest of ways: this is one way.   This is for everyone. You are welcome to join us.

People’s Emergency Briefing News

Yet another successful PEB screening – this time organised by Colwall Greener but using Malvern group facilitators and helpers. Two more screenings coming up in November – for details see ‘Upcoming Events’ below.

In national news, the parliamentary petition is going to be debated in Parliament on 16th November at 4.30pm. There is still time to sign the petition to show the volume of support: Sign the parliamentary petition: National Emergency Briefing.

In local news, there was an excellent piece in the Malvern Observer about the District Council’s refusal to put on a screening: https://malvernobserver.co.uk/news/shock-as-malvern-hills-council-rejects-climate-film-screening/. And a follow-up meeting for anyone who has attended a screening has been arranged for Monday 23rd November, 7pm at Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Link Top. The idea is to consider what practical action could be taken locally to address the issues raised in the film: Contact our local group to find out more about getting involved locally: nebmalvernhills@gmail.com

Finding Common Ground on Water
Water is crucial to all life; we know that power-mongers are failing on water. We know that party politics is failing us too, so it’s time for the people to have their say in our future.Let’s take action on water, flooding  and democracy. It’s time to prove our voices count and show that politics can be done differently. You can take part in an online discussion and decision-making process using Polis.

Polis is a powerful, easy-to-use, online tool used by governments, cities, and organisations around the world. It has shaped policies and decisions based on real input from real people.
Take part until Thurs 19 November: https://joinxr.uk/waterpolis

Spread the word – And the experience! To get everyone involved, please share the Polis link everywhere, with our friends, family and communities.
